Crunchy, chocolatey and packed with plant-based protein, these mini chocolate peanut butter protein crispies are the perfect no-bake sweet treat.
I love having something sweet every day. This recipe is tasty and full of nutrients. Some of my homemade sweet treats are a little higher in calories, which is absolutely fine, but when I'm eating in a calorie deficit, I like having lighter options available too.
That's where these Low-Calorie Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Crispies come in.
They're crunchy, chocolatey and full of tiny soya protein puffs, with a delicious combination of dark chocolate and creamy peanut butter.
One of the things I love most about these is the texture. The little protein crispies add plenty of crunch without needing a large amount of cereal, making them a great ingredient when I want something that feels substantial but still fits into my calorie goals.
I also love making them in mini portions. Sometimes I just want one little chocolate crispy with my afternoon iced coffee, and sometimes I fancy two.
They're incredibly easy to make, require no baking and use just a handful of simple ingredients.
Why You'll Love These Chocolate Protein Crispies
These mini chocolate crispies combine everything I love about a homemade sweet treat.
They're rich and chocolatey, with a satisfying crunch from the soya protein puffs and cornflakes.
Unlike traditional chocolate crispy cakes, this recipe uses high-protein soya crispies to increase the plant-based protein content.
They're also naturally easy to portion, making them a convenient option for anyone looking for smaller sweet treats.
And best of all, they taste like actual chocolate crispy cakes rather than a typical protein snack.

Low-Calorie Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Crispies Recipe
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Chilling time: 30 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes
Servings: 10 mini chocolate crispies
Dietary: Vegan, dairy-free, no-bake
Ingredients
- 50g soya protein crispies (I use Chia Charge 80% Protein Crispies)
- 15g cornflakes
- 50g dark chocolate, dairy-free
- 20g smooth peanut butter OR 20g PB Fit powdered peanut butter (lower-calorie alternative)
- (optional) 1 teaspoon of maple syrup
- A small pinch of sea salt
How to Make Chocolate Protein Crispies
- Melt the chocolate: Break your dark chocolate into small pieces and gently melt in the microwave in short 20-second intervals, stirring between each, or melt in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.
- Add the peanut butter: Stir the smooth peanut butter into the melted chocolate until completely combined. You should have a rich, glossy chocolate mixture. If using PB Fit instead, gradually stir the dry powder into the melted chocolate.
- Prepare the crunchy ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the soya protein crispies and cornflakes. Gently crush a few of the cornflakes to create smaller pieces, but leave plenty of texture.
- Combine everything: Pour the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the crispies and cornflakes. Gently fold until everything is evenly coated.
- Divide into mini moulds: Spoon the mixture into mini silicone cupcake moulds or small paper cases. Divide evenly to create 10 mini chocolate crispies. Press each portion together gently so the mixture holds its shape once the chocolate sets.
- Chill until firm: Place the crispies in the refrigerator for approximately 30 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely hardened.
Enjoy: Remove from the moulds and enjoy straight from the fridge for the best crunchy texture.

Why Soya Protein Crispies Are Such a Good Ingredient
If you haven't tried soya protein crispies before, they're worth discovering, particularly if you follow a vegan or plant-based diet.
They look like tiny, crunchy cereal balls, but they're made predominantly from soya protein rather than traditional cereal grains.
I use Chia Charge Soya Protein Crispies 80%, which contain approximately 80g of protein per 100g.
That means the 50g used in this recipe provides around 40g of protein before adding the remaining ingredients.
They're High in Plant-Based Protein
Soya is considered a complete protein because it contains all nine essential amino acids.
Protein plays an important role in maintaining muscle mass and supporting muscle recovery.
It's also especially useful when you're eating in a calorie deficit and want to preserve lean muscle while losing weight.
Adding a high-protein ingredient to homemade treats is an easy way to increase your overall protein intake without needing to rely on protein shakes.
They Add Plenty of Crunch
One of my favourite things about soya protein crispies is their texture.
They're tiny, lightweight and incredibly crunchy, making them perfect for homemade chocolate clusters.
Because the little puffs are so small, they mix easily into melted chocolate and distribute throughout the mixture.
This creates lots of little crispy bites in every mouthful.
I find crunchy textures particularly satisfying when I'm craving a sweet snack, which is one of the reasons I love this recipe.
They're Versatile
Soya protein crispies aren't just for chocolate treats.
You can sprinkle them over plant-based yoghurt, add them to homemade protein bars, mix them into breakfast bowls or use them as a crunchy topping for desserts.
They're also a useful ingredient for experimenting with homemade high-protein snacks.
They're Naturally Low in Sugar
Unflavoured soya protein crispies such as the Chia Charge version contain no added sugar.
This makes them a convenient base for homemade treats because you can choose how much sweetness to add through the other ingredients.
In this recipe, the dark chocolate provides the sweetness, while the crispies add protein and texture.
Where to Buy Soya Protein Crispies in the UK
I use Chia Charge Soya Protein Crispies 80%, which are available through the Chia Charge website and Ocado.
You may also find similar products through specialist sports nutrition retailers or Amazon.
When shopping, look for small, unflavoured soya protein crispies with a high protein percentage.
They're different from larger soya chunks or textured vegetable protein, so make sure you choose the little crispy puffs designed for snacking and recipes.
Why I Use Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is one of my favourite ingredients for homemade sweet treats.
It creates a rich, indulgent chocolate flavour without needing lots of additional ingredients.
Dark chocolate contains cocoa solids, which naturally provide flavanols. These are plant compounds with antioxidant properties.
Higher-percentage dark chocolate can also contain less sugar than milk chocolate, although it's still relatively high in calories and fat.
For this recipe, I like using around 70% dark chocolate.
It's rich enough to give that proper chocolate flavour while still having a little sweetness.
You can also experiment with 85% dark chocolate if you prefer something less sweet.
I love the combination of slightly bitter dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter and crunchy cereal.
It's important to me that homemade healthier treats still taste genuinely enjoyable.
I'd much rather use a little real chocolate than create something that doesn't satisfy my craving.
For a vegan version, always check that your chosen dark chocolate doesn't contain milk ingredients.
Why Peanut Butter Works So Well
Chocolate and peanut butter are one of my favourite combinations.
Peanut butter adds a lovely creamy consistency to the melted chocolate, helping coat the little protein puffs.
It also creates a delicious nutty flavour that balances the richness of the dark chocolate.
Natural peanut butter contains mostly unsaturated fats, alongside some plant-based protein and fibre.
Although it's calorie-dense, you only need a small amount in this recipe.
Using 20g across the whole batch adds plenty of flavour without adding a large amount to each mini crispy.
I prefer smooth peanut butter made from just peanuts, ideally with no unnecessary added ingredients.
Can You Use PB Fit Instead of Peanut Butter?
Yes! If you're looking for a lower-calorie alternative, powdered peanut butter such as PB Fit is a great ingredient to experiment with.
PB Fit is made from roasted peanuts that have had much of their fat removed.
This produces a powdered peanut butter that's lower in calories and fat than traditional peanut butter.
It's also a convenient source of plant-based protein.
How to Use PB Fit in Chocolate Crispies
You can replace the regular peanut butter with approximately 20g of PB Fit powder.
For the easiest method, gradually stir the dry powder into your melted chocolate until fully combined.
The mixture may become slightly thicker, so add it slowly.
Alternatively, mix the PB Fit with a small amount of water to create a thick peanut butter paste and add a small amount separately.
